  • Why Take Music Lessons?

Eric Glick Rieman, MFA

I was originally taught piano by my mother, who was a private piano teacher at that time, and I began rudimentary lessons at the age of 3 1/2. Music was a large part of my early family life. I had three older sisters who all played piano and another instrument, and we often sang as a family in our home. Our family belonged to The Church of The Brethren, a church closely associated with the Mennonites, and a church which features much music making in its services. I sang in the children's choir at church as well as performing in church on the piano and other instruments. I have studied piano and pipe organ with a number of teachers over the years, including (most recently) improvisers Brett Carson, Chris Brown and Myra Melford. I have studied composition and improvisation with Fred Frith, Pauline Oliveros, John Bischoff, Douglas Ewart, and Alvin Curran, and electronic music with John Bischoff, Chris Brown, Maggi Payne, and Eliane Radigue.

I am the Daddy of two boys, ages 17 and 13, and I like kids and how they think.

I have been teaching privately since 2002.
